Russia, France will veto.

Russia, France will veto.
Uncommitted votes swinging against U.S.

“France has joined Russia in declaring itself ready to veto a new UN resolution which gives Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein until 17 March to disarm.

ABCNews is reporting the six previously uncommitted countries have “refused to back Washington.” C’mon ABC, can’t you just say the truth - that the six countries are voting No?

We are watching the balance of power in the world change before our eyes.

Emergency convergence on the White House to stop the war on Iraq

with parallel actions in San Francisco & Los Angeles

Let’s make this one the biggest yet. We have slowed the war from starting. Maybe we can stop it completely. Or if it starts, we can create such a ruckus, they must end it early.

Here in L.A., ANSWER LA is raising money for ads in La Opinion and several college newspapers to publicize our march on Saturday. They have a PayPal link on their homepage and will happily and gladly take contributions of $1 or more.

The PayPal link was my idea. The first time they ran a PayPal ad appeal, they raised the money in 24 hours, with the vast bulk of donations being less than $5. Many were for $1.

We here in L.A. have organized several major protests, and now International Answer is listing us along with DC & SF. We’ve gone from being a supposedly nonpolitical town to protests with 100,000 people. Saturday may well top that number.

I’ve got three organizing meetings this week. Working at ANSWER is inspiring. Fred decided to do teach-ins at schools. Now he’s done several, including public high schools where they cancel classes and let him talk to students.

Mike, who has no car, grabs flyers at ANSWER then spends the day taking the bus and subway, and walking around, handing them out. He passed out 3,000 flyers in a two day period last week.

Squads of people who shall remain nameless glue posters everywhere. And I mean everywhere. One guy scouted out churches in his area, then postered on Saturday night so churchgoers arriving on Sunday morning would see the posters as they drove in to their churches.

And that is how you get the word out!

Corporate America joining antiwar protests

Corporate America joining antiwar protests

Warren Langely, a past president of the Pacific Stock Exchange, has joined with Direct Action Against the War in San Francisco, in calling for massive nonviolent civil disobedience when the war starts. They plan to shut the city down.

Langely says “So I am surprised to be here today telling you that, to stop the war, I am willing to “break the rules” and asking you to join me in “breaking the rules” so loudly that we are heard by the President and his administration to convince them to find a way to peace not war.”

He may be the among the first of prominent corporate Brahmins to publicly join the antiwar forces. He will not be the last.

In fact, here’s another one. Bill Gross, head of PIMCO bonds. He manages hundreds of billions of dollars of bonds. He is not happy about the coming war. (Go to PIMCO, then click Investment Outlook)

“I suspect, however, that by invading “evil doer” nations, we may lessen our vulnerability but lose a piece of our soul in the process. Yes, I’m aware that Iraq is in noncompliance with UN resolutions and that its leader is a near madman.

I’m also aware, however, of how absolute power corrupts and how we may be crossing a thin line. Preemptive attacks? Kill them before they kill us? No one has experienced such Hours in the United States before. I am heartbroken that it has come to this and I fear for my country’s proud heritage and even more for its future.”

MOAB: “Massive Ordnance Air Burst”…

MOAB: “Massive Ordnance Air Burst” Bomb

From Deep Audit, who can ferret out facts like nobody’s business, comes the following:

Somebody sent me the following conspiracy theory.  Follow along, now:

MOAB, the weapon:

Moab, the scripture:

We then leap to this conclusion:  They named that bomb “MOAB” on purpose!  Those … Apocalyptic Bastards!

But do you know where Moab was?  I didn’t.  So I looked it up:

Moab, the biblical place:

Moab is in modern day Jordan.

Then I looked up the rest of Isaiah (having never read more than the occasional passage of it).  Isaiah had a separate prophecy against Babylon, which is and was in Iraq.

Therefore, Deep Audit concludes that if the Apocalyptic Bastards wanted to make the connection between the Son of Daisy Cutter and apocalyptic prophecy, they would have named that bomb BABYLON.  Which would stand for ….

Big Ass Bomb Yields Lots O’ Nastiness.

Or something like that.

(Are you having “voila” moment yet?)

Deep Audit

How about calling it BLOWBACK -  Bombing Lots Of the World Brings America Catastrophic Konsequences?  (Hey, given we’re about to go to war, I figure I can take a few liberties with spelling…)

PS. See the comment from Kynn below, he reports the peaceful people of Moab, Utah want the name of the bomb changed!

Udder tampering is a darned…

Udder tampering is a darned serious crime

“There are men in Wisconsin who are deliberately using artificial means to make their cows’ udders more attractive. Why? Because these men are very, very lonely.

No, seriously, they are doing it to win livestock shows. These are competitions in which cows are judged on various characteristics, kind of like human beauty-pageant contestants, except that the cows are more likely to know what “Iraq” is.”

Interrogate that seven year old

Interrogate that seven year old

From Talk Left

“We’re shocked that this hasn’t gotten more coverage. We are outraged. The CIA has acknowledged that last September, the seven and nine year old sons of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, arrested last week and alleged to be a “mastermind” of the 9/11 attacks, were seized by Pakistani authorites, and that this weekend, the kids were turned over to the CIA and then flown to America“
