Stop the War stops Colin…

Stop the War stops Colin Powell

The Stop the War - Stop Bush - Coalition has won an early victory in their campaign to hound President Bush and his entourage.

The President’s leading lieutenant Colin Powell was due today to give a speech at 4.00pm at Senate House at the University of London. However after the Coalition organised a welcoming committee to greet the Secretary of State, the Police cancelled the meeting.

Describing the victory as a stunning success, Lindsey German, spokesperson for the Coalition said, “this shows the huge strength of opposition to the Presidents visit, and shows there will be no place where either the President or his party will not go unopposed on the streets of Britain.”

Bush in London

Bush in London

‘He is just a foolish cowboy’

And he brings an entourage of 700 with him. That’s your tax dollars paying for this armed-to-the-teeth visit to an alleged friendly ally.

Track Bush is virtual real time in Britain at Chasing Bush!. Updates will occur via cell phone and text messaging.

British dislike Bush, not US, Times of London poll

The British public is not anti-American. Voters are hostile to President Bush. But repeated opinion polls have shown that people clearly distinguish between the current President and his Administration’s policies, and their underlying liking for Americans and the US.

Three fifths of the public think that Mr Bush is “not very intelligent”, “not very well informed about the world”, and a danger to world peace. Moreover, more than half the public in the Newsweek poll do not have much or any confidence in the ability of the US to act responsibly as the world’s sole superp
ower.

The Cost of Bush

GUARDIAN - Claiming that the cost of policing for the visit would add £2 to the average London council tax bill, [London mayor Ken] Livingstone said this morning: “I think most Londoners would be happy to give £4 for him not to come.”

Do that funky perp walk,…

Do that funky perp walk, rich boy

US officials have arrested 48 foreign exchange traders on suspicion of fraud in New York City’s financial district.

FBI officials raided a building housing several firms in Manhattan, taking away the workers in handcuffs.

For more on the dismal tale of corruption in high places, check Corporate Crime Blotter, where the daily parade of arrests and indictments is, the webmaster tells me, now becoming too numerous to keep up with. And the scandals are spreading, and may soon claim some very big firms indeed.

Fund scandal spreads to sales (from the LA Times)

The Securities and Exchange Commission is looking into whether 14 of the country’s largest mutual fund companies, including two based in Southern California, engaged in improper sales practices, industry and regulatory officials said Monday.

One of the firms mentioned is PIMCO, who controls hundreds of billions of dollars in bond funds, and is, I believe, the largest mutual fund company in the country, if not the world. The collateral damage from a PIMCO indictment would be worldwide and serious.

Conservatives, as expected, go ballistic…

Conservatives, as expected, go ballistic on Soros

Satan lives in George Soros, howls the Right in a headline I might have used to satirize them (Hmm, I just checked the URL, and the article has now vanished from the website, interesting…)

The fiction which is interdependency has a prolocutor in the congregation of Moloch. His name is George Soros. No other single person represents the symbol and the substance of Globalism more than this Hungarian-born descendant of Shylock. He is the embodiment of the Merchant from Venice.

Whoa, some might construe that as an anti-Semitic jab, but that couldn’t be true because Republicans have a “big tent” strategy, right?

His public reputation as an astute currency speculator is generous, while his skills as a manipulator and procurer of pain and suffering is shrouded in the footnotes of the financial journals. Claiming to be a philanthropist, his record is literally one of being a patron for indentured enslavement.

Bzzzt. Reality check needed! Soros was actively supporting democracy movements in Russia and Eastern Europe at a time when conservatives generally wheezed about how noble Reagan was  - and did precious little to aid the movements. While many on the Right propagandized, Soros was taking action.

And isn’t it a hoot to see conservative Republicans weep crocodile tears about the pain inflicted by currency speculators and capitalism! Soros has said the worldwide financial system is nearly broken, that he exploited it to make billions, and now plans to give most the money away — as well as stop Bush from being reelected. Hey, you don’t suppose that’s why conservatives are so angry at this exemplar of Capitalism, do you?

And others may be joining the fight

Blair inner circle members looking to defeat Bush

George Bush will be served notice today that the deep hostility towards him in Britain has reached the Blair inner circle, when the former minister Stephen Byers launches a bid to destabilize the president’s re-election campaign next year.

On the eve of Mr Bush’s state visit to Britain, Mr Byers, an arch-Blairite, will set out proposals to help Democrats in key swing states if the White House refuses to abandon punitive trade sanctions against the UK.

We may be seeing the opening skirmishes of a global battle among the powers-that-be as to George Bush’s political future. Hang in there lefties, reinforcements appears to be arriving from the most unexpected of directions, the halls of power and finance itself…

P.S.  News.google.com found the first article I quoted with their news alerts. Currently, if you search them for “Shylock”, the article appears, however the site, GOPUSA.com, returns ‘page not found”. They must have pulled it. Here’s what the Google News Alert said

US wants shoot-to-kill permission in…

US wants shoot-to-kill permission in Britain, gets shot down

Home Secretary David Blunkett has refused to grant diplomatic immunity to armed American special agents and snipers travelling to Britain as part of President Bush’s entourage this week.

Let’s hope our loony President doesn’t start giving shoot to kill orders here in the US, should some peace demonstrator offend his tender sensibilities.

Blair’s wife attacks Bush over international court

Cherie Booth, QC, the wife of the Prime Minister, has attacked President Bush over his opposition to the International Criminal Court, it was reported today.

Now I really don’t trust…

Now I really don’t trust Diebold

Dan Wientraub reports that the California Secretary of State has released the official results of the recall election. Perusing the results by county, one notices something odd: Alameda, Kern, and Plumas county report 0 voters not voting on the recall question. Zero.

Kern County uses the Dibold AccuVote OS Mark Sense Ballot Card, and Alameda and Plumas use the Diebold Accuvote Touch Screen.

Hmmmm.
