EU to force universal charger standard for mobile phones

Works for me. Having different chargers for every cell phone is ridiculous and wastful.

The EU says by Jan. 2012 most new mobile phones will have a universal charging connector.

The good part about this: About half the US market phones already do this, and those that don’t will quickly either adopt it or will see their sales drop off a cliff. I know lots of younger folks, and unless a phone has something super worth it (like the iPhone), not having a USB port you can charge from is a deal breaker. “It’s got a custom charger? No thanks. What else do you have?”
