Bi-coastal escrows

Things have been a teensy bit hectic here of late. We have bi-coastal escrows going on. Our house here in L.A. sold in 4 days, and we’re buying a house in Connecticut. We move next week and close escrow there the week after.

The logistics of all this has been quite amazing. Blizzards of phone calls. Hundreds of details. Hand cramps from signing all the escrow documents. The most logistically challenging part was figuring out how to ship three cats. Thank you LAPetTaxi.

The blog will continue just as is and there should be no interruptions in posting.

Yes, our house sold in four days. Make it sparkle. Price it attractively. That’s how to do it.

(While it’s sometimes been stressful along the way, happily Sue and I so far have had our meltdowns at different times, thus the other one is always there to provide support. And yes, I know it gets cold in Connecticut, I grew up there!)

Bill introduced to recognize Armenian genocide

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-CA has introduced a bill (HR 195) asking President Bush to recognize the Armenian genocide.

However, US officials more worried about Turkish feelings than genocide.

Armenian Americans are more insulted by the offensive attitude of the Bush administration toward the Armenian Genocide than they are by Turkey’s refusal to acknowledge it.

LA City Council votes to support Schiff’s resolution.

It’s been a long time coming and it’s a long time overdue. The US government needs to officially realize and recognize the Armenian genocide happened.

Circus of Detention

Giant tent cities that can be installed in a day currently hold thousands of undocumented workers immigrants who languish sometimes for weeks or months in windowless cocoons where the lights are always on. Children too.

Get ready America, if you see a crowd of tents popping up on the outskirts of your town, don’t mistake them for a new circus – it’s just a few hundred migrants performing some little detention act to an invisible audience. Nothing to be concerned about, just move along.

1.6 million undocumented workers are currently enmeshed in the immigration system. Does this not indicate that a) the workers are needed here, and b) the current system is dysfunctional? As for the conditions of the dentention facilities, well, most of us wouldn’t lock our pets up in windowless tents with the lights on all day with nothing to do, now would we?

Carbon storage?

Total, a huge French energy company, is experimenting with storing carbon emissions in underground empty gas fields, while researchers in Britain propose storing it in underground reservoirs.

Why is this important?

Approximately one third of all CO2 emissions due to human activity come from fossil fuels used for generating electricity, with each power plant capable of emitting several million tonnes of CO2 annually.

These emissions could be reduced substantially, without major changes to the basic process, by capturing and storing the CO2.

Assuming of course, that the storage system is reliable and can’t fail.
