Ken Krayeske trial

A statement by a witness flatly contradicts the police version and the Hartford CT chief of police can’t seem to keep his story straight.

And lookee here, it now appears the Enemies List has ten people on it, not just Krayeske.

Pop go the mortgage lenders

17 mortage lenders have imploded since Dec. 2006, with more on the critical list. Maybe making high risk subprime loans wasn’t the best of all strategies after all, especially in a place like Orange County CA where 17% of the jobs are real estate related and the collateral damage could be severe.

But, as always, it’s the poor and most defenseless who get hurt the most, like when they lose their homes because of predatory lending practices. Yeah sure pal, sign here, it’s a triple back flip balloon negative amortization adjustable rate mortage with a lemon twist. Just $500 a month… (Twenty four months later) …What’s that you say, your mortgage is now $3300 a month, well yeah, see that little print there, you signed it, and that’s what you owe…

Global warming expected to flood Indonesian islands

flooding.gif
The environment minister of Indonesia says rising sea levels could put 2,000 of their islands underwater by 2030 and that “wild weather,” also due to global warming, will produce crop shortages next year.

Not all of those islands are inhabited, but this is a stark portent of what’s coming. Low-lying populated islands will have to be evacuated, with obvious major economic and personal repercussions.

This is what’s coming, in different forms, all across the planet. Massive dislocations of people and destruction of habitats, communities, and businesses will occur because of global warming.

Not only will the people on those islands have to be evacuated and new homes found for them, they can never ever go back home again because there will be no home to go back to. Further, they will become refugees on other islands, where they may or may not be wanted, competing for jobs and land. The political tensions this will cause are obvious.

The Air Car

The Air Car
This tiny French car, The Air Car, will be in full production soon. It looks great for zipping around town, and generates absolutely no pollution and costs virtually nothing for drive. That’s because it runs on compressed air. Commercial models, including taxis and vans, are planned.
