Craig Murray threatened with legal action

The British authorities are threatening legal action against Craig Murray due to his new book, Murder in Samarkland, which details the US/British policy of sending prisoners to Uzbekistan to be tortured.

They blocked him from putting some of his documenting evidence into the book so he put them online. Now they want those gone too based on a bizarre legal strategy, not saying the document are classified, but that they belong to the crown and thus are copyrighted. Sounds bogus, doesn’t it?

I guess they don’t know the Internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

From the comments to our post on the release of the book.

Please note that the British government is taking legal action against Murray for having published these documents. See my blog [Leninology] for the letter and e-mail exchange with the government’s solicitor. International blogs should face no legal difficulties in *mirroring* the documents from Murray’s site and putting them up for general view, of course.

BlairWatch is mirroring the files, and has continuing updates, as of course does Craig Murray. They are still on British servers, but may not be much longer.

Polizeros now has a mirror of the documents (12.8 mb download).

The more sites that mirror the files, the better. Bloggers, start your downloads.

Not ready for prime time Ned

Ned Lamont needed a knockout last night in his debate against Sen. Joe Lieberman to boost his long-shot campaign in the Democratic primary on Aug. 8. Instead, he seemed a flopping fish out of water instead.

From The Hartford Courant

Unlike the collegial tone employed in his vice presidential debate with Dick Cheney in 2000, Lieberman was alternately caustic and dismissive, leaving Lamont wide-eyed and visibly rattled in the opening minutes of the one-hour confrontation.

Politus says, Ned Lamont: This Year’s Howard Dean

On Tuesday I said, Lieberman will win. This inept performance by Lamont solidifies it. He’s done.

Not sure why Netroots likes to back obvious losers, but they do.

The U.S.-Israeli assault on Gaza

From the ANSWER Coalition listserv

The U.S. and Israeli propaganda mills would have us believe that the current crisis began with the kidnapping of an Israeli soldier, Corporal Gilad Shalit, on June 26. There is no shortage of photos of Shalit, picnicking with friends, posing in his uniform, etc. His worried family is frequently interviewed. It goes without saying that this humanizing is virtually never extended to the thousands Palestinian victims of Israeli repression. Shalit is exclusively represented in the mainstream media here as an innocent victim, and never in his real role as an occupation soldier.

Protest racist Minutemen in Hollywood

This Saturday, July 8, 4 pm
Gather at corner of Hollywood & Argyle, LA
(Metro Red Line stop Hollywood & Vine)
Or meet at the A.N.S.W.E.R. Office at 3 pm, 1 block away from the protest.

From ANSWER LA

On Saturday, July 8, all progressives are encouraged to join pro-immigrant organizations, including the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition, at a counter demonstration against the racist, anti-immigrant Minuteman Project and other neo-fascist groups. Minutemen members and supporters will be marching through Hollywood that day in a so-called “United States of America March.” They claim to be celebrating the people of the United States, including “legal immigrants,” but their underlying racism against all immigrants is unmistakable. Help us expose them as the racists they really are.

Now is the time for everyone to stand up for full equality, legalization and amnesty for undocumented workers. No to racism and the Minutemen! No to a guest worker program! The struggle for justice has no borders!

Every time the Minutemen crawl out from under their rock in Los Angeles, we’ve been there with numbers far greater than theirs. Lets do it again on Saturday.
