Microsoft reverses its position on anti-discrimination bill!

From Scobelizer, who blogs while working for Microsoft

MAJOR NEWS: Microsoft reverses its position on anti-discrimination bill.

MAJOR NEWS. Steve Ballmer is sending email to all Microsoft employees explaining that Microsoft is reversing its position on the anti-discrimination bill.

I haven’t gotten the email yet, but I already have permission to post it in public, and I hear that it’ll be posted on Microsoft’s PressPass site too.

We’re also reaching out to the various blogs and news sites that were disappointed with how we handled this.

From my position, I’m elated.

I hope that this lets us all move forward and heal some pretty deep rifts that were exposed.

I received this news at shortly after 9 a.m. in a call with Frank Shaw, vice president of Waggener Edstrom (Microsoft’s public relations firm).

Terrorist hides in Miami with wink and nod from the neocons

More on Luis Posada Carriles, the terrorist who is hiding out in Miami

Venezuela seeks exile’s extradition

Challenging the United States to make good on its pledge to hunt down terrorists, Venezuela on Thursday formally requested the extradition of a radical Cuban exile who is reportedly hiding in Florida and is wanted here in connection with an airline bombing that killed 73 people.

The neocons, aided by the extreme right-wing Cuban community in Miami, want to grant this admitted murderer asylum in the US.

Accused bomber Luis Posada Carriles’ April 13 petition for U.S. asylum has roiled Washington’s already strained relations with Venezuela and sparked anger in Cuba, the target of the attacks blamed on him. The asylum request said Posada, 77, had managed to evade homeland security measures and slip into the U.S.

U.S. officials repeated Thursday that they had no solid confirmation of the claim made by a Florida attorney that Posada was in the country. “We are following up on leads as we would normally do,” said Barbara Gonzalez, spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami.

Uh huh, he just sort of snuck in the country and the feds have no idea where he is…right.

Tell Bush & Congress: NO asylum for Luis Posada Carriles

When a victory isn’t a victory

Papers say Blair won ‘on his knees’

Prime Minister Tony Blair secured an historic election triumph but a backlash over the Iraq war brought him to his knees, and may mark the beginning of the end for his rule, the world’s press said.

Many observers are saying Blair is so weakened he won’t last another year in office.

Those who don’t learn from the past are doomed to repeat it

GM and Ford plunge to junk status

Punishing blow delivered to debt-ridden carmakers

The scale of the financial crisis facing Ford and General Motors was underscored yesterday when a key credit agency cut its rating on the automakers to “junk” status.

Japanese carmakers have innovated, delivering intelligent cars like the Prius, as well as producing high quality, low maintenance, well engineered autos. Detroit instead continued down their lunkhead path of making SUV’s and living in the past. Now it’s crunch time. Just like what happened to them in the 70’s.

How to stop spyware, trojans, etc.

On a Windows computer, there’s a text file called HOSTS that can be used to block websites from your browser and computer. Download the free hosts file
from mvps. It lists over 1000 sites that deliver ads, spyware,
hijackers, trojans, and other parasites. By simply downloading this
file to your pc, you block those sites from ever appearing in your
browser, and thus from possibly delivering software to attack your pc.

It simple to install. Download the zip file, unzip it, then copy the
hosts file to where it is stored on your computer (locations vary based
on which version of Windows you are running). Then go to a major
news website and you may see blank spaces where ads used to be. It will
also stop access to your computer from hordes of nasty websites who
wish only to infect your system with something.

Note: Sometimes the hosts file might block sites you don’t want
blocked. If so, edit the hosts file with a text editor and delete the
website name. You’ll then be able to access the site.
