Conservatives defend general who described war as battle against Satan

We look forward to their cogent “logic” explaining why the universe was created in seven days.

Ancedotal evidence people are not…

Ancedotal evidence people are not crossing grocery picket lines

I shop at a farmers market every Sunday in Encino, CA for fruit and veggies. It’s usually quite busy, however yesterday, by the time I got there at 11 am, many vendors had mostly empty tables. This has never happened before and must be due to the grocery strike.

Also, a clerk at Trader Joe’s, a small competing chain, told me their business has been absolute nonstop since the strike began.

Massachusetts says Goodbye to Redmond

Massachusetts says Goodbye to Redmond

Massachusetts adopting open-source software!

Massachusetts Administration and Finance Secretary Eric Kriss last month instructed the state’s chief technology officer to adopt a policy of “open standards, open source” for all future spending on information technology.

The directive likely won’t completely cut out Microsoft from the state’s $80-million technology budget.

But it may be the clearest example yet of a state government taking sides against Microsoft in the software industry’s most important struggle.

I plan to get a Linux computer soon and network to my PC net. Then, I’ll gradually migrate to Linux, moving far far away from the never ending system crashes and security holes of Windows.

For those of you who haven’t worked on a computer with a real operating system, not the bloated bug-ridden Windows, you may be startled to learn that real operating systems just keep running, seldom crash, and don’t need constant attention and tweaking.

Massachusetts has launched a torpedo at Microsoft. Others will follow. Judging from the computer industry magazines I read, corporate America is already doing this. Why? Well, if you have Windows, estimate how much time you spend downloading patches, re-booting after it crashes, worrying about security. Then estimate how much time it would take to do this for a company with 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 computers running Windows…

Corporations spend million of dollars and way too much time constantly updating and fixing Windows problems and security issues — which ought not to have ever been problems at all. They are tiring of this, and are realizing Linux and Unix simply don’t have these problems.

Brian’s Buzz

Brian’s Buzz

Brian’s Buzz, a website and newsletter about Windows by one of the best in the business, has been detailing just how bad things are in the world of Windows security holes and endless patches.

Oct 2. Exploit of broken MS patch is ‘in the wild’

I reported in a previous newsletter that a critical Microsoft security patch does not actually close the hole it was intended to correct. Flawed patch MS03-032 continues to allow attackers to silently install and run malicious programs on PCs that merely visit an infected Web page.

Now virus attacks that take advantage of this flaw have appeared “in the wild,” on Web pages that infect Windows without warning. Unbelievably, Microsoft still doesn’t have an update that corrects the faulty patch — despite the fact that the company acknowledged the error on Sept. 8

Brian also has an e-book, Spam Proof Your Email Address, for $9.95 with info that really works. I’m using it now on my business website, www.bomoco.com. Y’see, spammers search websites for email addresses, so we need to hide the addresses from them. Brian shows us how. The e-book is free to paid subscribers of his newsletter. (You can subscribe for free, paid subs get more info)

My business website used to have email addresses where spammers could find them. Thanks to Brian, while you the web surfer can email me, and see my email address, a spammer no longer can find the address. And it’s simple to do and free!

Bolivian peasants kick serious ass!

Bolivian peasants kick serious ass!

The exiled former president of Bolivia, holed up in a hotel in Miami, yesterday spoke of the “shock and shame” he felt after being forced to resign and of his fears for the future of the South American country.

He was exiled because hundreds of thousands of peasants marched many miles to the capital city and then shut the city down — which overturned his corrupt regime.

While the Bushies are embroiled in the sinkhole that is Iraq, South American countries have been veering sharply to the left. What these Bolivian peasants did is inspirational.

May it happen here one day.

Plans for the Queen and George W Bush to make a triumphant procession along the Mall during the president’s state visit next month have been abandoned because of fears of anti-war protests.

President Bush’s trip is the first full state visit of an American president since the Queen came to the throne 52 years ago. He will travel by helicopter to avoid protesters who line road routes. Other proposed events have also been curtailed or cancelled, and he will not address Parliament because of fears of a boycott by MPs.

May it happen here one day!

Should we pray for these…

Should we pray for these unbelievers?

‘No health benefit’ from prayer

The world’s largest study into the effects of prayer on patients undergoing heart surgery has found it appears to make no difference. The MANTRA study, run from Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina, involved 750 patients.

Before their operations, they were randomly split into two groups, and half were prayed for by Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims. However, checks revealed they had fared no better than those not prayed for.
