Bush slaps down Rumsfeld

Bush slaps down Rumsfeld

Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said a decision to transfer the day-to-day oversight of Iraq’s reconstruction to the White House from the Pentagon is no reflection on his leadership or the progress made in rebuilding and pacifying Iraq.

Yeah right…

Recall mania

Recall mania

California Democrat Party state spokesman Bob Mulholland said his party is giving Arnold Schwarzenegger just 100 days before a new recall effort may be launched.

Bob Mulholland is a nasty pompous horses ass but a recall may well be possible given that Arnold can’t possibly fulfill his campaign promises and if, as Greg Palast says, Arnold tries to bail out the Texas energy companies by letting them settle for pennies on the dollar, his constituency may well turn on him, and fast.

Already press reports indicate that Democrats have $3 million prepared for a new recall effort. Also, Hollywood billionaire Stephen Bing has promised to finance any Democratic-backed recall effort.

Der Gropenfuhrer muscles his way into office

Yes, we all know this was primarily about the hated Gov. Gray Davis, not Schwarzenegger.

We know there was growing rage about the way business is done in Sacramento, where lobbyists own every lawmaker.

But let’s give Arnold the credit he deserves.

If you can trample your own campaign promises, avoid talking about fixes for the state’s problems, drive a Hummer in smog city, get accused of pawing 15 women, and still captivate an electorate in which Democrats hold a huge advantage, you deserve to be governor.

And the people deserve to have you.

There are close to 10,652 of them in California — those that voted for George B. Schwartzman probably thinking they were voting for Arnold.

Phhtt to you, Florida!

Phhtt to you, Florida!

A few weeks back, humorist Dave Barry worried that California might take the political nutcase crown back from his beloved home state of Florida. His fears were well-founded as California has just elected a testoterone-addled actor with no political experience as Governor. California, we are the champions!

What can we expect?

Train wrecks and more train wrecks. The Dems have solid majorities in both houses so Arnold won’t be able to get much passed. He says he’ll govern by getting propositions on the ballot to do what he wants done. However this takes huge time and money, is probably not feasible, and will just mean more train wrecks. Also, I expect people will discover Arnold is far more to the right than they thought.

California is in huge trouble financially, but not much will get accomplished. Lots of fireworks and train wrecks but little positive forward motion for California. Things are polarized and will become more so.

The California Democratic Party: Asleep at the wheel

Gray Davis was a dull hack skilled only at raising money and delivering the goods to donors. He took a perverse pride in campaigning with a “hold your nose and vote for me” platform. Finally, sickened by his corruption and ineptitude, people finally voted against him. Cruz looked good for about a week — until he started making ponderously dull and uninspired speeches — then it was all over for him.

Had the Democrats had the wits (and courage) to run a real candidate, someone who understood how pissed off people are, someone who wanted change too, they could have easily won this election.

Instead they’ve been tacking to the right for years, following the same braindead philosophy espoused by the Democratic Leadership Council - ignore the traditional base of labor, the working class, and minorities and instead try to get swing voters in the middle.

On Tuesday in California that base didn’t voting much. Why should they? The Dems have reaped what they sowed.

Democrats will stop suffering such humiliations the moment they start acting like Democrats again.

Howard Dean on the California…

Howard Dean on the California recall

Today’s recall election in California was not about Gray Davis or Arnold Schwarzenegger. This recall was about the frustration so many people are feeling about the way things are going. All across America, George Bush’s massive tax cuts for the wealthy are undermining state budgets, causing cutbacks in services and increases in local property taxes.

Were recalls held in every state, it’s quite possible that 50 governors would find themselves paying the price for one president’s ruinous national economic policies.

Tonight the voters in California directed their frustration with the country’s direction on their incumbent governor. Come next November, that anger might be directed at a different incumbent…in the White House.

Bushies want sanctions On Syria

The Bush administration is lifting its objections to legislation that would impose sanctions on Syria until the country has ceased support for terrorist groups and halted development of chemical and biological weapons

And war too, probably

Bolstered by U.S. support for an airstrike against Syria, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he would not hesitate to attack Israel’s enemies anywhere–heightening concerns Israel may widen the conflict with the Palestinians by again striking at nations it accuses of harboring terrorists.

We’ve been here before haven’t we? Talking tough about sanctions against ”evildoers”, illegal airstrikes inside other countries, all of which leads to the US invading yet another country. The US is already deep in quaqmires in Afghanistan and Iraq with troops already spread much too thin, yet the loonies in DC are itching to invade Syria too.

Well, Dubya is doing poorly in the polls, isn’t he? Gotta pump those numbers up somehow.

D.C. bribes Turkey to send…

D.C. bribes Turkey to send troops to Iraq

Washington has offered Turkey $8.5 billion to support its fragile economy and indicated the loan depends upon on Turkey’s active support for peacekeeping in Iraq.

And Turkey may also get US troops to fight Kurds

The authority to deploy troops also gives Turkey another bargaining chip in its campaign to persuade the Americans to move against the rebels of the Kurdish PKK who occupy mountain strongholds in northern Iraq.

However the vast majority of the populace of Turkey strongly opposes Turkish troops in Iraq, so major unrest looms large.
