Tom “The Timid” Daschle dares…

Tom “The Timid” Daschle dares not criticize Trent Lott

Trent Lott recently openly supported segreagation while at a party for Strom Thrumond.

“Speaking at a celebration for centenarian Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina on Thursday, Lott noted that Mississippi had backed Thurmond’s segregationist Dixiecrat presidential candidacy in 1948. It was one of four states, all in the South, that Thurmond won that year.

“We’re proud of it,” Lott then added. “And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over all these years, either.”

So how did Tom Daschle respond?

“There are a lot of times when he and I go to the microphone and would like to say things we meant to say differently,” Daschle said, “and I’m sure this was one of those cases for him, as well.”

Jeez Tom, I know you have to work with Trent every day in the Senate, but couldn’t you have at least said something about the loathsomeness of the 1948 Presidential run by hardcore segregationists? Something not a few Republicans did, by the way.

Dumbest Ad of the Year…

Dumbest Ad of the Year Award

The award for most brain dead ad of the year goes to … United Airlines, who, this the day after filing bankruptcy, is running full page newspaers ads sunnily announcing this bankruptcy thing is, in reality - hold on now - A NEW BEGINNING! Wow, I am SO relieved to learn that bankruptcy is such a non-event.

The ad, titled, “Chapter 11″, had the second “1″ scribbled out, so it reads “Chapter 1″! Get it? Clever, huh?

The ad concludes with “When you step on-board a United plane, you will feel the difference. You will feel the new energy and new optimism. You will feel the new beginning”. Right, I’m sure the pilots and attendants on the flights are just thrilled to know they may not have jobs soon.

However, while some may decry the cock-eyed optimism of this ad and instead ask for a pound of whatever it is they’re smoking, we here at Polizeros feel inpired by the ad - inspired to not fly United next time, as a management this clueless can’t possibly pull the company out of their death spiral.

US Won’t Say Which Pharmaceutical GM Crop Escaped from Prodigene Corporation

The United States food chain has been contaminated by Genetically Modified (GM) maize plants used to produce a pharmaceutical or industrial chemical but US authorities are unwilling as of today to disclose what the mysterious GM Pharmaceutical maize is that was found for the first time among food crops in two US States (Iowa and Nebraska).

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Tuesday Nov. 12 that it quarantined over $2.7 million worth of soya beans (500,000 tonnes) destined for human consumption at a Nebraska grain elevator after finding parts of ProdiGene’s GM maize mixed with the soya beans. They later ordered their destruction.

Research into the company involved, Prodigene, reveals that the contamination could be one of the following :

* AIDS vaccine gp120 — a glycoprotein

* Blood-clotting agent — Aprotinin

* Trypsin - Digestive enzyme that can be used in leather tanning or to produce insulin.

* Industrial adhesive Laccase — an enzyme derived from a fungus

Once you start genetically engineering drugs and chemicals into crop plants then you really are opening Pandora’s box. The consequences could be catastrophic, said Adrian Bebb of GM Campaigner at Friends of the Earth.

Microsoft can’t be trusted, says…

Microsoft can’t be trusted, says Microsoft!

From Brian Livingston, the respected Windows columnist at Infoworld

“I never thought I’d see the publisher of Windows issue an official document saying, “You shouldn’t trust Microsoft.”

But that day has arrived.”

This is due to yet another humunguous, and dangerous, security hole in Windows. Read the gory details. Download the patch. And be aware that the patch can be compromised.

How, you ask, can it be compromised?

“If you’ve ever downloaded an updated Windows component — and you happened to check the box that says “always trust Microsoft” — the insecure version of <what you just patched> will install itself without any notice. It can do this because it still has a valid Microsoft digital signature.

This is where “trust” comes in. The Microsoft bulletin says the only way to ward off this attack is to “make sure you have no trusted publishers, including Microsoft.” To do this, start IE and click Tools, Internet Options, Content, Publishers, Trusted Publishers. Then remove every company name you find. Sorry, if any new plug-ins arise, you’ll now have to decide Yes or No on your own.”

Thanks so much for your lousy software, BillG. I’m thinking my next PC will be Linux or a Mac.

And a big DUH to…

And a big DUH to you too, good buddy

“A man who tried to rob the branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken where he was employed, turned up for work as normal three days later. Aaron Bell from West Philadelphia didn’t wear a mask or any disguise and nor did he try to hide his face. The 19-year-old cook didn’t get any money, apparently not knowing the safe he tried to force his boss to open was time-locked.”

More ice melted from the surface of the Greenland Ice Sheet this year than ever before recorded, report scientists from the University of Colorado. The same team found that the extent of Arctic sea ice reached the lowest level in the satellite record in 2002, offering further evidence that climate change is already altering the Arctic.”

Venezuela Chavez supporters surround TV…

Venezuela Chavez supporters surround TV stations

From a NarcoNews email:

“Masses of Venezuelans have peacefully surrounded all the commercial TV stations in the country to protest the dishonest simulating efforts by these media giants to provoke a coup d’etat”

Breaking news from their website.

“On Monday night, the Venezuelan majority - unwilling to allow an upper-class economic coup d’etat that poses dishonestly as a strike to unseat its democratically elected government - took to the streets on a scale only seen once before in the nation’s modern history; as they had last April, when they turned back a military coup d’etat.
By early Tuesday morning the masses had every Commercial TV station in the nation surrounded. Their weapons were nonviolent and theatrical: pots, pans, fireworks and thousands of defiant but smiling faces.
An amazing sight: Thousands of people have surrounded the headquarters of five commercial television stations (RCTV, Globovision, TVS, Meridiano TV, Venevision) and are treating them to one hell of a cazerolazo (pot-banging). They are shouting “medios golpistas!” (putschist media) and “terroristas!”. The channels have stopped (probably only briefly) broadcasting anti governmental propaganda and are at last giving some pro governmental demonstrations some coverage.”

As Greg Palast would say, “you did read about this in U.S. media, didn’t you?”
