Wellstone Dies In Plane Crash…

Wellstone Dies In Plane Crash.

His wife and daughter died also. What a tragedy. What a catastrophe.

Sen. Paul Wellstone (D-MN) has died in a plane crash, CNN reports. Josh Marshall writes a wonderful tribute saying Wellstone was “irreplaceable.” On the political ramifications, Wellstone’s death throws the battle for control of the Senate up in the air. CNN notes that under Minnesota law, “if a nominee in a Senate race dies during a campaign, his or her political party can select a replacement candidate no later than four days before the general election.”

The Washington Post reports that Alan Page and Walter Mondale are being considered to run in Wellstone’s place. MyDD tells why Page is a better choice. Yeah, I know, Wellstone isn’t even buried yet…

PS. Conspiracy rumors are already wafting through cyberspace, claiming Wellstone was murdered. Most illogical. The Democrats have enough time to appoint a replacement, and the huge sympathy vote will elect him.

Warbot

Warbot

You’ve heard of warblogs - those blogs that INSIST we need to go to war right now.

Well, now’s there’s Warbot. Enter a name in their handy control panel, then click “Detect liberal bias”.

Warbot will then spit out customized warbot rantings and post them as an entry! I entered “Ted Kennedy”, and Warbot posted

Ted Kennedy and mendacity

In the mind of Ted Kennedy, it’s always Prime Minister Blair’s fault.  Al Gore’s rationalizing was wretched. It was hollow. It was low. But I understate.

There’s no room in the camp of the putrescent Left for our confident opportunity. The partisan insouciance of the bigots and their vile liberal elite is anti-war.

Shockingly, to be one of the bloviating Left is to mislead and shroud in a smokescreen.  We must lead unique courage.

To oppose common sense prosperity is to hate America

Sounds like FoxNews, doesn’t it…

Muhammad, Malvo may be connected To Alabama terrorist camp

Terrorist training in Alabama???

Authorities are investigating into possible ties between John Muhammad, 41, John Lee Malvo, 17, and a training camp reportedly linked to Islamic terrorists in Marion, Alabama. European law enforcement officials believe Muslims were using the camp to prepare for a holy war, according to a July 25 2002, report by ABC NEWS.

An investigation by Britain’s Scotland Yard led to the discovery of “Camp Ground Zero,” in Alabama. Bullet-riddled school buses and police cars with mannequin targets were scattered around the grounds. Inside a large warehouse were shot-up mannequins, in domestic settings, with blood-like stains on them.

Got Oil - It Lives!

Got Oil - It Lives!

Arianna Huffington got such a great response to Got Oil idea that she hopes to run them as actual ads on TV! Ads like the following…

The ad cuts to different people in their SUVs: “I gassed 40,000 Kurds,” “I helped hijack an airplane,” “I helped blow up a nightclub,” and then in unison: “We did it all by driving to work in our SUVs.”

From her email newsletter

We’ve had an overwhelming response to the suggestion in my last column that we mount a citizen’s ad campaign aimed at getting people to stop driving SUVs and other gas-guzzling vehicles — and jolting our leaders into taking action.

It’s been a busy — and productive — last few days. Lawrence Bender, producer of “Pulp Fiction” and “Good Will Hunting”, and director Scott Burns, co-creator of the “Got Milk?” ad campaign, have agreed to donate their services to make these ads a reality through A Band Apart, Lawrence’s production company. And to get these ads on the air we are opening a fund for the sole purpose of creating these commercials.

Contribution fund. Checks payable to:

SUV Ad Fund/A Band Apart
7966 Beverly Boulevard, 2nd Floor
Los Angeles, CA 90048

To make a contribution online using PayPal, visit either www.salon.com or www.ariannaonline.com on Monday.

This would truly be a wondrous thing to see on TV. Let’s all make it happen.

US Marines ordered into Colombia

US Marines ordered into Colombia

This is from NarcoNews, who have an uncanny way of being way ahead of everyone else with important political / drug war news from South America.

Two battalions of US Marine Jungle Expeditionary Forces have recently received deployment orders for insertion into Colombia this coming February, 2003.

The battalions, which with support will total roughly 1,100 men, will rotate in and out of southern Colombia, with orders to eliminate all high officers of the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), scattering those who escape to the remote corners of the Amazon. The FARC hierarchy has been the subject of intensive US intelligence scrutiny for several years. The offensive will mean that the US is fighting wars on three fronts simultaneously: Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia.

The offensive will be led by the Colombian military, which will push the FARC south toward the waiting Marines. A similar but much smaller operation involving former US-SEALS was called off at the last minute two years ago. The Bush Administration is supposedly prepared to take the heat as many innocent Indigenous peoples and Colombian campesinos—a number that could reach the thousands—as might be killed in the offensive.

The presence of US troops in battle in Colombia will be in direct contravention of the Congressional parameters of both Clinton’s Plan Colombia and Bush’s expanded Andean Initiative.

Let’s bash The Borg!

Two Evil Empires join!

Microsoft and Disney release combined Internet service. Please explain why having Donald Duck on my ISP a compelling reason to use that ISP?  Seems Goofy to me. Truly a Mickey Mouse idea.

Living without Microsoft

Go ahead, you can do it!.

This site is designed to help anyone who — for whatever reason — wishes to explore the possibility of living without Microsoft software. We aim to build a resource which will be informative, impartial and accessible to non-techies.”

It’s Linux for IBM supercomputer project

Linux will be the main operating system for IBM’s upcoming family of “Blue Gene” supercomputers–a major endorsement for the operating system and the open-source computing model it represents.

Blue Gene/L, the first member of the family, will contain 65,000 processors and 16 trillion bytes of memory. Due in 2004 or 2005, the system will be able to perform 200 trillion calculations per second. <I want one!>

This is a huge win for Linux and Open Source.
