Jail Guitar Doors. Musical instruments to prisons

Jail Guitar Doors. The Clash.

Jail Guitars Doors brings guitars, songwriting and music classes to prisons. It was co-founded by MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, who served time in federal prison for drugs. So, he’s been there.

Kramer started it based on a similar foundation in the UK started by Billy Bragg. The name come from the Clash song of the same name, which has lyrics about Kramer being in prison.

JGD is an Amazon Smile charity, so 0.5% of your eligible purchases will be donated to it at no charge to you.

“Jail Guitar Doors USA works toward a more fair and just America by providing musical instruments and mentorship to help rehabilitate prisoners through the transformative power of music and advocates for change in the corrective systems.

The purely punitive approach that has predominated the American criminal justice system for the last 30 years has been a dismal failure, and our country is finally waking up to this sad fact. Organizations interested in safer and more just communities have had to step into the breach of this disaster to heal the wounds.

Jail Guitar Doors USA has accepted this challenge.”
