Hospitals in Concord NHÂ do not accept Obamacare. People who live there have to drive 25 miles to the nearest participating hospital. Unfortunately, Concord is not an outlier. Hospitals, some of them big and well-known, are either rejecting Obamacare completely or only accepting a few plans.
The problem is negotiated rates offered by Obamacare insurers is insufficient. Insurers, worried about having to provide coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, are looking to cut costs wherever they can. Things are so confused now some hospitals don’t even know if they have Obamacare coverage. Also, healthcare.gov gives no information about which hospitals in an area are covered by Omamacare. Go to the wrong hospital and you could get a big bill.
But responding to Obamacare caps on premiums, many insurers will, in turn, simply offer top-tier doctors and hospitals far less cash for services rendered.
Watchdog.org looked at the top 18 hospitals nationwide as ranked by U.S. News and World Report for 2013-2014. We contacted each hospital to determine their contracts and talked to several insurance companies, as well.
The result of our investigation: Many top hospitals are simply opting out of Obamacare.
