Californians support fixing the creaky state-wide water system until told it could cost $30 billion. Then support for the projects plunged. Good. The state water bond is a pork-filled disaster and plans to funnel water away from the Sacramento Delta to Central Valley big ag and southern California would similarly be an expensive calamity as well an environmental disaster for the Delta.

Californians say the state’s water supply system has serious problems that require improvement, but they are unwilling to spend billions of dollars in ratepayer and taxpayer funds on the task, according to a new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll.

The results suggest an uphill fight for proponents of a state water bond and for a proposal to replumb the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
