The Paterno family issued this empty, morally vacant statement after the Jerry Sandusky verdict, conveniently ignoring that Saint Joe Pa knew what Sandusky was doing and did nothing about it. Hey, football has to come first, right? To my knowledge the Paterno family has accepted no blame or offered genuine apologies. Rather, we get evasive attempts at PR spin, just like we do from politicians and CEOs. Never explain, never apologize.
Although we understand the task of healing is just beginning, today’s verdict is an important milestone. The community owes a measure of gratitude to the jurors for their diligent service. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and their families
Yes, Paterno family, the task of healing is just beginning. Perhaps it could have “just” begun some time ago but for serious and several lapses in judgment.
You’re so full of shit, Paternos. You are in full-blown CYA mode. Unfortunately it’s all too transparent and inconsequential. The name has already been sullied. It can’t be unsullied. Least of all by trying to now align yourselves with the victims after the fact.
The Paterno estate probably can’t be sued but Penn State certainly can and no doubt will be. The lawsuits by victims and ongoing investigations will take years. Everyone even peripherally involved with this at Penn State needs to be fired.
