Occupy Student Debt Campaign

This campaign is a response to the student debt crisis and the dependency of U.S. higher education on debt-financing from the people it is supposed to serve. There is no justice in a system that openly invites profiteering on the part of lenders. Education is a right and a public good, and it should be properly funded as such.

The educational institutions have no skin in the game. It’s not their money being lent out. The loans are securitized, guaranteed by the government, and Wall Street makes plenty off them. No one much cares if students become debt slaves for years with loans that can not even be discharged by bankruptcy.

Yes, people should be responsible with money and loans. But this is a racket sucking in the unwary and desperate.
