Turning Hummers into mini-homesBob MorrisTue, Aug 02, 2011News3 Comments Architectural firm HplusF wants to turn old Hummer shells into homes. Here’s their plan for eight Hummer shells becoming one house. They have many other plans too. Dornob has more. Share:TwitterRedditMoreTumblrFacebookLinkedInPinterestEmailWhatsApp
Last month’s Sunset magazine had an article on recycling shipping containers to use as building blocks for housing.
(I bet that there are far more shipping containers than there are Hummer bodies–and that it would be easier/cheaper to make weather proof structures out of them.)
I think they designed the Hummer Homes partly as a statement. Yes, building containers are being used to create all sorts of home, shelters, buildings.
Yes–this is obviously another case of architects playing with themselves, creating “witty” “concepts” that are intended to do exactly what this design did: make them look cool to their peers and generate a lot of publicity for their firm. (And never to be actually built in the real world.)
