GE to launch hybrid light bulbs for Earth Day

The bulbs are Halogen / CFL. The halogen portion turns on within half a second, eliminating a complaint about CFLs lighting too slowly, then turns off when the CFL is on. Price will be $5-10 with bulbs having an expected life to 8,000 hours
