World’s biggest land wind farm gets financing

The proposed Shepherd’s Flat wind farm in Oregon just got a $1.3 billion loan guarantee from the federal government, insuring the project will be built. Completion is estimated by 2012. 338 GE wind turbines with a capacity of 2.5 MW each will output 845 MW. 1 MW is enough for about 750 homes.

Contrast that with offshore wind turbines, which can generate 7-10 MW each, with Spain currently developing a 15 MW monster.
