This is brilliant. Take your old cell phone to an ecoATM machine. It’ll determine how much the phone is worth, then issue a receipt you exchange for money at the cashier. It’s like Coinstar, but for electronic devices. They started with recycling cell phones and are now quickly expanding into iPods, GPS, and other small electronics. If they can’t find a buyer for the item, they promise it will be disposed of in accordance with green practices. Any data on the device will be wiped.
Coinstar, makers of the coin-counting machines as well as Redbox, the DVD rental machines, just announced they are investing in ecoATM.
