Giant plumes of oil forming under the Gulf

NY Times

Scientists are finding enormous oil plumes in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico, including one as large as 10 miles long, 3 miles wide and 300 feet thick in spots. The discovery is fresh evidence that the leak from the broken undersea well could be substantially worse than estimates that the government and BP have given.

The plumes are four and five deep in some places and are depleting oxygen in the water, which threatens sea life. The scientists estimate the leak at 25,000 to 80,000 barrels a day.

Yet the government insists it’s only 5,000 and BP refuses to let scientists to measure near the leak. Thus, we have our government, acting in collusion with BP, steadfastly lying about the size of the leak refusing to let other federal scientist determine what’s happening.

Why they are stonewalling? Inquiring minds want to know.
