Difference between Utah and California

Here in Utah, they have drug courts. Offenders get sentenced to rehab houses and if they screw up, they go the jail for a few weeks or months. Sometimes it’s a revolving door for quite a while. But here’s the difference. Probably because of a LDS-inspired belief in redemption, Utah doesn’t throw you away after three chances. California does, due to its Draconan Three Strikes sentencing. Three Strikes and you go to prison for a very long time. Here in Utah, sometimes an offender sentenced to AA meetings finally does get it after multiple jail stays, and gets clean and sober for keeps. Everyone benefits from this, and it’s a way saner system than what California has.
