How fast is the Internet growing?

Mind-boggling fast. Akamai says
their content delivery system last Friday had massive demand for sports video and their biggest day ever.

They had 500 billion requests for content or 12 million requests per second.

Traffic peaked at 3.45 Tbps per second, their highest ever. A terabit is 125 gigabytes, so that’s 431.25 gigabytes per second “roughly equivalent to the capacity needed to download the entire printed contents of the U.S. Library of Congress in less than a minute.”

In five years, these numbers will no doubt seem small.
