Soybean oil blend works well as fuel for home furnaces
A blend of degummed soybean oil and No. 2 fuel oil can be used as an alternative heating fuel and reduce sulfur emissions, according to a Purdue University scientist.
The Peppermill Resort Casino in Reno has drilled to 4,400 feet down to a hot water aquifer. The 173 degree F water will be used to heat its entire property and running water by January.
Companies are now offering alternatives to these fixed installations, in the less conspicuous form of shingles, tiles and other building materials that have photovoltaic cells sealed within them.
