Microbes that convert carbon in wastewater into plastic

Now that’s recycling. And a huge win for everyone involved as well.

The many advantages of wastewater-to-bioplastics over petroleum include easing pressure on landfills, converting a municipal waste disposal liability into a marketable asset, reducing the amount of petroleum-based plastic in the waste stream, and virtually eliminating environmental disasters related to oil spills and accidents. Add the logistical and job-creation advantages of siting bioplastic manufacturing facilities near the feedstock source, and it’s a no-brainer.

From turning waste from meat processing plants into biofuel, reprocessing old tires into new rubber, and now this – it’s clear that what we thought was garbage can often become an asset rather than a liability. And it’s way better for the planet too.
