Solar power towers store heat from the sun into molten salt to power steam generators. The salt can be stored for days, then used on demand as needed. Thus the power is available 24 /7.
Solar Reserve already has one existing such plant and is planning a much larger one. They say they are ready to build utility scale plants now and the price for power will be competitive with fossil fuel plants.
