As the end game in Sri Lanka comes to a close, the war crimes of the Rajapakse administration continue.
It is now being reported that the Army discovered 150 LTTE leaders and cadres who committed suicide; LTTE leader Prabhakaran is believed to be among them.
The remaining LTTE cadres who refused to commit suicide have petitioned the government for a cease-fire in order to surrender.
“We cannot permit any more harm to befall them. We remain with one last choice — to remove the last weak excuse of the enemy for killing our people. We have decided to silence our guns.”
However, the government has refused to accept their surrender. Says AP:
“The government rejected the last-ditch call for a cease-fire, saying the thousands of civilians trapped in the war zone all have escaped to safety and there was no longer any reason to stop the battle. “
Well, except that the pesky Geneva Conventions require surrendering combatants to be treated as POWs…
