Bioplastic. Use it for packaging, then turn it into biofuel

plastic trash

A new type of plastic created from plant oils is in development. Use it like any other plastic, but instead of tossing it in a landfill when done, it can be turned into biofuel by adding an enzyme.

The Pentagon just gave $2.34 million more for research into this.

The technique could reduce the amount of material that the military has to ship to soldiers at remote bases, because the plastic would do double duty, first as packaging and then as fuel. It would also reduce trash disposal problem.

It’s not ready for commercial prime-time yet, but if, and hopefully when it is – wow.
