White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Jon Stewart eviscerating Jim Cramer

I enjoyed it thoroughly despite, even as Mr. Stewart said, that it may have been uncomfortable to conduct and uncomfortable to watch,” Gibbs said during the daily White House briefing. “I thought somebody asked a lot of tough questions, and I am not surprised that the video of Mr. Cramer’s appearance doesn’t appear on CNBC’s website today.”

I think this loosely translates as, Wall Street – your party is over, and don’t come crying to us.

What Jon Stewart has done, I think, will be looked back upon as being a watershed moment when the game changed fast, suddenly, and irreversibly. A talk show host / comedian morphed into a brass knuckles investigative reporter and showed us (and the pathetic financial news networks) what genuine journalism is. And left the once powerful and seemingly immune battered on the ground. I bet there are more than a few really nervous investment banker types right now wondering if they’re next in line to get poleaxed. Or indicted.
