Earth to State of California. You really need to figure out what the budget shortfall is, give us one realistic number, and not continually upwardly revise the deficit. Else we citizens might think you’re incompetent, deliberately lying to us, or both.
I mean, first the deficit was $8 billion, then $12 billion, then $30-40 billion. The legislature, in a spectacular display of ineptitude, took several agonizing months to pass the budget. And now this? Oopsie, we are so sorry, but looks like we are off by another $8 billion. I think they have a teensy credibility problem.
The upcoming May 19 special election has a numbers of propositions that must pass for that recently passed train wreck of a budget to be implemented. The voters are in a foul mood and the state government appears unable to do even basic math (we have $x in revenue and $y in expenses. Calculate the deficit.) So the propositions may well be voted down on general principles.
And then the protests and tax revolts will really begin.
