Step It Up is organizing hundreds of rallies across the country for a National Day of Climate Action on April 14th, 2007.
Every group will be saying the same thing: Step it up, Congress! Enact immediate cuts in carbon emissions, and pledge an 80% reduction by 2050. No half measures, no easy compromises-the time has come to take the real actions that can stabilize our climate.
Congress may be easier to persuade on climate change than on the wars. But the real change will come when new political and economic structures are created to deal with global warming, and Congress remains part of the problem not the solution.
That said, this seems a fine idea, plus it’s coming out of the grassroots. You can learn more and get involved on their web site. They have nearly 800 actions planned so far.
