Poe’s Law and the Kenyan Socialist skeet-shooting

Obama-skeet

I posted satirically on Facebook and Twitter about Obama skeet shooting and it turned out to be a fine, if unintentional, example of Poe’s Law.

Don’t be fooled. Photos of the Keynan Socialist skeet-shooting are simply meant to lull gun owners before their weapons are confiscated by the United Nations.

Poe’s law states:

Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that someone won’t mistake for the real thing. The core of Poe’s law is that a parody of something extreme by nature becomes impossible to differentiate from sincere extremism. A corollary of Poe’s law is the reverse phenomenon: sincere fundamentalist beliefs being mistaken for a parody of that belief.

I should have included a smiley so people would have known for sure it was satire, which is increasingly more difficult to do since apparently some actually do believe what I posted as a joke.
