Japan plans to build a behemoth 1 GW wind farm ten miles offshore Fukushima consisting of 143 turbines, enough to power about 600,000 homes.

Meanwhile, as regular readers are no doubt expecting, I will note that despite our huffing and puffing about the wonderfulness of our renewable energy, the US still has no offshore wind. The usual gang of NIMBYs, reality-denying Republicans, the petroleum industry, and hypocritical Democrats who pretend to be green but aren’t (Let’s give a shout out to the Kennedy clan!) have successfully torpedoed offshore wind for at least a decade now.
