The robot horse and cheetah are designed and built by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA. The cheetah is tethered and has an external battery pack. However, a mobile version will be testing next year.
The horse can carry 400 lbs and follow a leader on uneven terrain for twenty miles without refueling. The tethered cheetah is faster than any human at over 27 mph.
Maybe Robocop isn’t a fantasy after all.
