The department is conducting the second investigation into allegations that officers bought specially-made handguns with an ‘LAPD SWAT’ insignia and resold them at a steep profit.
Somehow, mysteriously, the first investigation was a dud and of course LAPD hasn’t done anything tacky like relieve officers of duty but since such gun sales could be federal offenses LAPD may be forced to do something or have it done to them. But asking them to investigate itself is an exercise in futility so no doubt the feds will end up prosecuting this.
I wonder who the weapons were sold to. I bet drug cartels would pay extra for SWAT insignia guns.
