Obama cited executive privilege as a reason to not produce gunwalking documents that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee headed by Darrell Isa have requested.
Sen. Grassley says “How can the president assert executive privilege if there was no White House involvement? How can the president exert executive privilege over documents he’s supposedly never seen? Is something very big being hidden to go to this extreme?”
I’m completely with Isa and Grassley on this. A US Border Patrol agent is dead as are many Mexican nationals as a result of guns that the US government allowed to be smuggled into Mexico by drug cartels. This was ostensibly done to track the guns up the food chain to the biggies. But that never happened. Instead a number of people are dead.
This is more than Republicans looking to slime Obama. The whole Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal has reeked from the beginning. It may have happened due to stupendously stupid and incompetent government blundering. But corruption could have played a role here too.
Those smuggled guns have killed people. The US public has a right to know what happened and who was responsible. Obama and Holder should release the documents and stop stonewalling.
