Tex-Mex soul from the Texas Tornados; Doug Sahm, Freddie Fender, Flaco Jiménez, and Augie Meyers in Texas, 1992.
Sahm and Meyer were in the Sir Douglas Quintet in the 60’s (despite the name, they were fron San Antonio) and pioneered the Tex-Mex sound that the Texas Tornados expanded upon.
Both bands had a unique sound. Was it rock, country, Mexican, Cajun? Yes. And it smoked.
