Pope issues mini-apology, promises to do nothing

He expressed “shame and remorse” and said “your trust had been betrayed and your dignity has been violated” then managed to imply that secularization of society was at least partly to blame. Who knew that secularization was a factor in infants being beaten bloody and preteen boys being raped.

The rest is about what you’d expect from the man who, in 2001, ordered clergy under threat of excommunication to not cooperate with authorities and to never share information. There are no specific calls to action, no acknowledgment that the problem is massive and the cover-up huge. He doesn’t even call for the resignation of Cardinal Sean Brady of Ireland who was present when two victims were sworn to secrecy and who has stonewalled consistently about a viciously pedophile priest.
