Johannes Mehserle, a Bay Area Rapid Transit cop, killed Oscar Grant by shooting him in the back while Grant was lying stomach down on the ground and not resisting. BART has agreed to pay $1.5 million to Grant’s survivors. Mehserle goes on trial for murder in May.
