Geothermal energy in Iceland

Iceland stills live off geothermal. At least their economic crash didn’t affect the geothermal. The US has huge amounts of untapped geothermal, we just have to use it.

$40 million in federal stimulus money is headed to geothermal energy projects across Oregon.

The money is being distributed by the U.S. Department of Energy to seven geothermal initiatives across the state, with more than half going to a company hoping to generate electricity from the super-heated water beneath the Newberry volcanic cone south of Bend.

Though geothermal wells are already used to heat some schools, homes and businesses in Oregon, the state does not have any utility-scale geothermal plants, which draw hot water and steam from the Earth to spin turbines, producing power.
