One rabbi, Levy Izhak Rosenbaum, was also charged with conspiring to broker the sale of a human kidney for transplant.
Marra said that Rosenbaum’s “business was to entice vulnerable people to give up a kidney for 10,000 dollars which he would turn around and sell for 160,000 dollars.”
The kidneys came from Israel apparently. The kidney removal must have been done by a MD who got paid to do it. Thus the donor, if they can be said to be called that, probably got considerably less than $10,000. I wonder just how willing they were to do undergo the surgery, how they were found, how they were treated – and where they are now.
