Environmental racism. TVA and dumping coal ash

The TVA wants to dump 3 million tons of coal ash that spilled from one of their plants in eastern Tennessee in a poor, mostly African-American area in Alabama.

The locals are fighting back but there may not be much they can do because it’s being dumped in a private landfill.

Coal ash contains significant levels of toxic pollutants including arsenic, lead and mercury as well as radioactive elements, but it is still not regulated by the federal government as hazardous waste.

I bet the owners of the landfill don’t live in the town. But are happy enough to put their personal profits before the physical health of the community.
