I’ve been in situations like this. It can be scary when police box you in. Wasn’t at this march, but it may have been that they didn’t have a permit to march where they went. At that point it becomes unpermitted and the police can move in. It helps if you have seasoned organizers who can talk to the police as things are happening and of course if you have enough people, like tens of thousands, then you can march wherever you want.
