Mia Farrow wants Blackwater in Darfur

Why? Because the UN peacekeeping force is ineffective. Lenin’s Tomb says this is just more liberal imperialism but that’s only part of it. The disquieting truth is that as governments including the US continue to hollow out, private corporations will fill the void.

In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, as the US government did little if anything to help, two corporations did quite a lot. Blackwater was hired by the wealthy to provide security and Wal-Mart just loaded up their trucks with supplies and rolled them in, ignoring government restrictions on such shipments. While you might be horrified by what Blackwater did, the sorry truth is they got their forces in when the US government couldn’t. And Wal-Mart may well have saved lives.

The hollowing out of governments will continue.

What an empty, vague statement. I’m not picking on you here. It’s a very interesting statement, and you go stimulating directions with it. But it’s just really terrible writing. Try to challenge yourself to throw in more in text citations and references. It’ll help you figure out how to articulate your points more specifically. I like that you’re calling the liberals on their hypocrisy, just try to do it better. And if you’re going to knock “governments,” do it with a little more analysis that gets more toward resembling proof. A good philosophy class or three would do you right.

    Best wishes.

  2. I’ve discussed hollowing out of governments many times here as have other authors and bloggers like John Robb. Blogs are a discussion and it’s generally accepted that you need to be part of the discussion for a while before you know what a blog is about.

Try reading Brave New War, it’s not like hollowing out of governments is some arcane concept, except of course to those who know nothing about the subject.
