US high-tech companies are being forced to outsource more jobs overseas because of outdated restrictions on immigration, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates told Congress Wednesday.
Gates, echoing a longstanding complaint from the technology sector, told a congressional panel that the US immigration system “makes attracting and retaining high-skilled immigrants exceptionally challenging for US firms.”
Like it or not, the world is increasingly flat, and if the US erects barriers to immigration and trade, then it will simply go elsewhere.

What wages are these foreigners being paid. If they are being paid the same wages US. citizens are paid, then I think IT industry is being truthful about a “IT shortage”

A recent study I saw noted that at least 25% of tech startups in Silicon Valley had immigrants from India among their major players.
