Facebook needs a clue train

A lot of people say that Facebook has jumped the shark. That’s flat out wrong. In fact, Facebook is now being devoured by the shark. There’s so much blood in the water, it’s attracting other sharks. And if Facebook’s not careful, one of them is bound to come along and finish it off. I’ve never seen anything like it in the annals of fast-rising tech companies that fail.

Facebook appears obstinate to the point of stupidity in their refusal to give an explanation about Beacon, about their lies, and what they plan to do. But when you pride yourself on never hiring anyone over age 24, then you’ll not have any greybeards who have been through such crises before and know what to do. Then you’ll need to listen to and act on what they say.

PS Zuckerberg has just issued an apology which, I think, deals with some but not all of the issues.

Wall Street states the obvious. Recession coming

Two major Wall Street firms [Merrill and Goldman] have finally thrown in the towel and are now calling for a recession. For a variety of reasons, Wall Street is usually late to call downturns, so this probably means that 1) we’re already beginning to come out of the recession, or 2) this recession is going to be a doozy (the more likely explanation, in our opinion).

There’s still a number of perkies around - my name for them - saying things are really fine fine just fine and these little economic speedbumps should be seen as buying opportunities. But more and more it’s becoming apparent that millions of coming foreclosures, trillions of dollar of financial toxic waste on the books, rising commodity prices, and a falling dollar do not portend well for financial stability in 2008.

Solar hybrid lighting

solar hybrid lighting

Sunlight is captured on the roof during the day and channeled to light fixtures throughout the building via optical fiber. At night, fluorescent bulbs provide the light. Thus, during the day, the inside of the building would be lit by actual sunlight. Nice.

Eleven more months of this?

The Clinton campaign attacked Obama for saying he is “not running to fulfill some long held plans” because they discovered - now hold on for this devastating expose - that while in kindergarten Obama had written he wanted to be president. They later compounded their blunder by saying, ha ha, it was just a joke. Yeah, right…

And to think we will be subjected to eleven more months of such petty, idiotic nastiness until the election next November. I wonder, will either major candidate be speaking substantively about the two major issues, the war in Iraq and the coming recession? My prediction, by March or so the economy will be the central issue. But neither candidate will offer any actual solutions and instead will focus on attack ads and blaming the other side.
