Pumping ethanol from corn in 1933

From a DOE site.

Pumping ethanol from corn in 1933

Note the sign at the bottom “Development means cornbelt prosperity.” Still does! Except, if huge amounts of corn get used for ethanol, then less is available for livestock and people. Hmmm.

  • Nice site….our little community website is running a piece on ethanol today and I found you through a search. Love the picture.

  • Cool pic. Ethanol demand is driving up corn (and therefore meat) prices. Did you know that other sources of ethanol include wood? But it hasn’t yet been developed because corn, though not the most efficient source, is the best known and most politically attractive.
