A California legislator proposes banning sale of incandescent light bulbs by 2012. This, coupled with the Wal-Mart plan to sell 100 million compact fluorescent bulbs by 2008 would give the CFL and LED bulb markets a gigantic boost while saving huge amounts of energy as well.
Traditional lights are cheaper, put out better light, and can be put place the newer bulbs can’t. But given a mass push to the new technologies, then those problems can no doubt be overcome.
If we are serious about stopping global warming, then these are the directions we have to go towards, doing more with less energy as old technologies are replaced by better, more efficient ones.
Couple of weeks ago there was a hoopla about not buying the new bulbs because they’re made in China and it takes jobs away from those who make incandescent bulbs… in Canada.
