Pat Buchanan on the bipartisan Iraq war

I came across this article by conservative Pat Buchanan.

While I’m not a huge fan of Pat, especially on immigration issues and such, he does make a very strong point about how Democrats are just as guilty of commencing and supporting this war as are Republicans (even though he doesn’t talk much about Republicans in the article.) He also mentions how Bush sees Congress as irrelevant if he wants to attack Iran.

Buchanan is absolutely correct about Democratic complicity in and cheerleading for the war. He opposed the Iraq invasion even before it began, saying it would be a huge blunder and the end of American empire. Hey, even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Meanwhile, a bipartisan group of senators announced a resolution opposing Bush on Iraq. Except, now hold on for this unexpected development, it’s a nonbinding resolution. Wow, I’m just stunned by the ferocity and determination of their flaccid opposition.

But politicians come and go. The real problem is a military-industrial complex that profits greatly from war as they perpetuate their own power. That’s why we’ll be marching on the Pentagon on March 17.

Buchanan did oppose the war before it started, however, he’s been a cheerleader for it ever since.
