All those obituaries of Milton Friedman. Did they forget to note the “sound advice” that he gave to the Pinochet’s regime?
The free market economic advice Friedman gave to Chile after the coup proved so disastrous for that country that their economy cratered a few years later, forcing the government to intervene massively and nationalize industries. Noam Chomsky has called this “The Friedman Road to socialism.”
And let’s not forget Friedman happily gave advice to a vicious dictator, installed by the CIA, whose regime murdered and tortured thousands.
